This print is of the actor Nakamura Shikan IV (1831–1899) in the role of the bandit Kaminari Shokuro. His coat of arms is the sign for drum, alluding to the thunder god and his own name. In this set, Kunisada shows five famous actors in bandit roles. Common to all are their bamboo flutes (shakuhachi), also their light cotton kimonos (yukata) in blue and white, and all are portrayed against a background of an Ikat fabric pattern.
