Design: Utagawa Kunisada, 1861

Ichikawa Ichizo III as the bandit Hotei Ichiemon. The name alludes to the god of good luck and happiness Hotei, whose treasures (takaramono) are illustrated on the yukata and round the title cartouche: rain hat and coat, pearls, scrolls and keys.
The five-part series was reprinted in 1863, this time with the signature of Kunisada’s pupil Kunichika. The face of Ichikawa Ichizo was replaced by that of Sawamura Tossho II and the fabric pattern background by a night scene with silhouettes.
