Jannis Kounellis, born 1936 in Pireus, lives in Rome today. He is key figure of contemporary art and co-founder of the Italian Arte Povera movement of the sixties. In his work he addresses issues of historical and cultural identity in a dialectical field of past and present.

Published for the exhibition of the same title (5.5.–22.8.1999) at the MAK.
