In addition to a text by the artist and an interview, this publication provides a representative cross-section of the artist's work. The spatial installation created by the artist specially for the MAK, Il sarcofago degli sposi, after which the exhibtion is named, is also documented in detail

Jannis Kounellis, born 1936 in Pireus, lives in Rome today. He is key figure of contemporary art and co-founder of the Italian Arte Povera movement of the sixties. In his work he addresses issues of historical and cultural identity in a dialectical field of past and present.
